Piano with Alice
Alice Peterson has been a private piano teacher since January 2000. She has been connecting people with music in a variety of ways for several additional decades. Her current studio, the JOY IN MUSIC Piano Studio, consists of a small focused group of children and teens and a large number of adult students. Some started as total beginners at the piano; others are refreshing their skills after some years away. Alice sees music as a gift from God meant for all, not only for specialists, and delights in helping people develop confidence and discover the joy in making music. It’s not a race, it’s a journey is her favorite phrase.
Alice started piano study at age eight, continuing into adulthood. She returned to college as an adult specifically for music education training. During the last decade, she has attended several national teachers’ conferences focusing on adult recreational piano approaches, and as a result, the studio’s adult recreational piano program is thriving.
Alice teaches year round. Her approach is to encourage JOY in making music, to teach the sequential SKILLS necessary to play music, and inspire CONFIDENCE in approaching music. Alice is always learning and growing musically. She is a member of the National Music Teachers’ Association and a founder and board member of the Southern Maine Music Teachers’ Association.
